300th Post to Innovation Crafting

This is my 300th Post to Innovation Crafting - Just a peep into last 30 months will help me and the readers to look at how we have come along. I thought will reproduce below some key elements of milestone posts!

First Post: October 23, 2005
Innovation Crafting
Successful exploitation of (New) ideas is innovation. One need to orchestrate or craft Innovation in a group such as a commercial organization. This is an open forum for Innovation and how to Craft it in the organizations!

Do it yourself - The Age of Co-creationization
The article however is not able to think towards the trend - It is about Co-Creationization of the world. The producers should provide sub-systems, modules, ready to make components, let the customer create. This is the start of the scenario ... It is when every customer goes to the design factory to co-create the product the customer needs along with you - through virtual or real immersion the age of co-creation will reach full bloom. You need a Jeans - why dont you design - Logon to levi's and vitually talk to the guy in the factory who will create the jean that you need - u dont need to go to a store dear - you are on your laptop or your palmtop driving through the busy evening train back home from work- you design your Jeans, you design your beds, bedsheets, you design your own toothbrush....design, create and njoy the process along with the guys who are ready to work on your product for you... obviously they dont know what you really Need - But do you know what you need!!!!

Start of the Death of IT Captive Centers in India

The issue in my opinion is not captives alone - it is the parent organization that doesnt have the patience and focus to minimize the inefficiencies in the way the system is built. Inhouse offshoring as a model could have become a fantastic capability if the parent organization gives autonomy and Profit and Loss responsibility to the captive. If it is pure cost center than anyway it will always remain like that - and the tentative ways in which companies try to execute captive centers will face more failures than success. It is a long term commitment to create a global organization that will build companies that last - else we are seeing the death of more companies!

Are Managers Anti-Innovation? {Question asked in LinkedIn and the answers}

Does the increasing number of choices, especially in a scenario where number of ideas are generated in the ideation or creative solution to specific problems, make the decision maker which typically is a Manager, insecure? This is so, as the manager has been given more options to choose from and more options for analysis, and as we know from our experience, increasing number of alternatives make the task of choosing one alternative exceedingly difficult. If yes, in effect Managers do not want Innovation actually...? Would like to have your thoughts comments or inputs

Generalists Vs Specialists

For Waite, the findings reinforce his broader world view. “We should value each other much more. We should value people who have a diversity of skills and interests. They might not have really recognizable specific skills but they might be good at doing lots of things,” he said.I am really not very clear about whether this is something counter intuitive really. In fact I have seen the multi-taskers, people with multiple skills (not depth in all of these) actually become the boss - it is anyway I believe - the generalist in all businesses is really the great influencer and connector and the lynchpin of a business - if the generalist is not there the system will break up!May be I am missing the excitement of the finding in the research above! I will not go to the extent that some of these models prove the obvious mathematically, yet thats closer to my feeling anyway!

Mutation is not so random afterall
Mutation it seems is not so random. There seems to be an evidence of well-coordinated effort to make possible the emergence of complex organs. The article here talks about a research report.
It talks about a term called pleiotropy defined as, "The phenomenon wherein mutation in a single gene can have effects on multiple traits is known as pleiotropy."
A conclusion of sorts from the author believes pleitropy is not random - it is well-coordinated. "Similarly, it appears that tuning up a complex trait in a living organism is well coordinated and the effects of pleiotropy are more focused than we thought."
If mutations are not so random - but coordinated, who and how they get coordinated.
I really need to understand - is there a possibility of uncaused emergence?

Well it has been an amazing journey so far for me- I have enjoyed Blogging and one can see how random it is - or how holistic the blogs are - depending upon one's perspective!

I wish to thank all past, current and future readers of the Blog!

Especially as I am embarking on a new dream - Look forward to making it happen from 1st June 2008!
